An annoying corruption bug was present in the version submitted to the 1st edition of the Passion MSX2 Contest by The New Image team (GuyveR800 + BiFiMSX).

This problem is now fixed. You will also notice that the new version, available in our MSX Goodies, has nicer graphics and improves the gameplay.

Links :
Equivocal - version 1.5
The New Image website

Shift - version 1.1
A crash bug has been discovered in the Shift game, one of the 2 entries to the 1st edition of the Passion MSX2 Contest. It happens when clicking a gem that is blocked by a weight in both directions.

The Infinite team (Edwin + Wolf) has been very fast to fix this bug and a new version is already available in our MSX Goodies.

Links :
Shift - version 1.1
Infinite website

Passion MSX2 Contest 2nd Edition

Exactly one year ago, we have launched the 1st edition of the Passion MSX2 Contest, but, unfortunaly, it has given only two games. We can note that the 1st edition of MSXdev' had only given 3 games. There must a beginning for everything !

It is the cumulated result of two elements :
- lack of chance for the RyJuZo team, who has discovered lately some annoying bugs in his ambitious project KnightMare III - Raziëls Revenge;
- apparent lack of interest from other coders (with exception for the Infinite and TNI teams), to which we recommend the exclusive using of our forums for any discussion, suggestion, asking for explanation in relation with the contest.

However, this situation does not prevent the Passion MSX team from going ahead and coming already on 1st July 2009 with the 2nd edition of the Passion MSX2 Contest and an unaltered goal : the creation of new quality games for the second generation of our beloved system, in other words : MSX2 !

Deadline is fixed to 30 June 2010, the format of your game needs to be a ROM file with a maximum size of 512 kb, the game needs to be created specifically for MSX2 and to work also without any problem on MSX2+ and MSXturboR.

Some changes by comparison with the 1st edition :

- the MSX2 machine needs to have 128 KB RAM in stead of 64 KB (by reference with the RAM size of most European MSX2 machines);
- what concerns the MSX2+ compatibility, it must only be guaranteeed for the machines whose the RAM has been extended internally or externally to 128 KB;
- there are still 3 prizes, but the global amount is 1500 € in stead of 999 €;
- the non permanent member of the jury for this 2nd edition is Manuel Pazos, an excellent Spanish coder.

For more infos, check our review about the contest ! Good luck to everybody !

Link : Passion MSX2 Contest 2nd Edition

Passion MSX2 Contest : Equivocal

The 1st edition of the Passion MSX2 Contest is finished ! In the last minutes just before the deadline, we have actually received 2 games. Besides the Infinite contribution (Shift), the Dutch team of The New Image or TNI (GuyveR800 + BiFiMSX), also well-known for their demos and games of high quality, had prepared an humoristic shooter, enhanced by PSG or PSG+MSX-MUSIC(FM) musics.

The erotic story of the game will be source of good laughings and the game will give you the opportunity to delete the traces of your passage in the space !

So, it's one of the two games submitted in time for the 1st edition of the contest. It will make the work easy for the jury (Daniel Vik and the Passion MSX team : SuperCobra and mars2000) ! However, we hope more games for the 2nd edition that will be launched very soon !

Links :
Equivocal
The New Image website

Passion MSX2 Contest : Shift

UPDATE : after some checking, we have received 2 games ! More infos soon !

The 1st edition of the Passion MSX2 Contest is finished ! In the last minutes just before the deadline, as it is their practice, the Dutch Infinite team (Edwin + Wolf), well-known for their perfectionist demos (Sphere - Wings), their superb musics or the great game Montana John and the Templar's Treasure, has sent us a nice surprise !

It is a patience game with 2 difficulty levels where you need to move gems to group them and get a maximum score in a limited time. Nice PSG musics give you courage and perseverance in this amazing game !

So, it's one of the two games submitted in time for the 1st edition of the contest. It will make the work easy for the jury (Daniel Vik and the Passion MSX team : SuperCobra and mars2000) !
MSXart: MSX Spacestation
A few years ago (already) Robert Vroemissen had already participated to MSXart with a nice graphic on well-known Compile's Aleste.

He comes back this year by imagining a spacestation in the form of the MSX logo that we invite you to discover.

To make it he has used Adobe Illustrator CS3 (the MSX logo and some vectorized details), Maxon Cinema 4D 11 (the whole 3D environment, composition and lighting) and Adobe Photoshop CS3 (color-tweaking).

Artworks are nicely coming in - but we still need 4 more to arrive before the end of September to be able to guarantee a new wall-calendar to be published for 2010. Keep participating!

MSXart'Unlimited is a permanent graphics 'contest' based on the MSX theme that addresses itself to expert and novice graphists.

Link: The MSXart'unlimited Gallery
Link: Everything you need to know about MSXart'unlimited
