To celebrate the 11th birthday of the MSX Files website, SLotman has added interesting things on his website on 6 July 2010.

You can find especially the conversion in disk format of a strategy game with battles simulation, published in 1991 by New Frontier : North & South or the American Civil War throught the eyes of the Tuniques Bleues from the Belgian Editions Dupuis. An Infogrames production on a not handful format, 2 tapes, a nightmare that ends with SLotman’s initiative !

You have the choice between three languages (English – French – Spanish) by pressing on the “P” key in the intro. You can also select your side of the war, the year of the battle’s beginning, the game mode (with or without real battles and fort invasions) and other parameters such as meteo or reinforcements from Europe ! A game for long evenings ! Thanks to SLotman for this conversion ! Attention : a 128 KB memory mapper is required !

Devil Zone, published in 1989 by Uttum, is one of the rare original games coming from Korea. There are 2 versions : a ROM version and a DSK version, this last one was until now playable only on a Korean MSX2 with drive (Daewoo CPC-400 or CPC-400S).

With some help from Popolon, GDX has created a version that works under MSX-DOS on any MSX2/2+/turboR machine having a memory mapper with at least 128 KB. Enjoy this difficult action and platform game, including some elements from Vampire Killer and Metal Gear !

You can find especially the adaptation for MSX of an adventure game in text mode, released for PC in 1989. You are a vampire slayer, recently died, who is authorized by the Death to come back to life, with as mission the elimination of a very annoying vampire !

You can find especially a prototype version of a game for MSX2+ and TurboR, clearly inspired by the famous Sonic of Sega ! The Pascal sources are provided, you must note that the game is not optimised to use the R800 super-speed of turboR (problems of VRAM traces) .

You can find especially a new conversion of a SG-1000 game : Drol and its strange universe where a robot navigates in a maze to rescue innocent people and animals while avoiding many monsters and traps.

This year, the contest games have a common theme : the prison. The New Image team (GuyveR800, BiFiMSX and discomeats) invites us to make everything to escape from an horrible prison : a giant labyrinth of 16 levels where you must find the way to the exit in a short delay, otherwhise the death is at the rendez-vous !

If 2 entries prefer to use the MSX2 screen 5, we remain astonished by the talent of Jon Cortázar, who juggles with MSX1 screen 2 and sprites to create a scene full with references to recent games of the MSX universe !

A first finished game for the 2010 edition of the great MSXdev' contest ! SapphiRe and ARTRAG come with NeoPONG512, a clone of the classical PONG and a remake of PONG512, published by SapphiRe in 2005 for the Let's Pong competition. The name comes from the fact that 512 different borders are possible !

There are many improvements whose samples to give more punch to the game and using of a nice color palette on MSX2. If you want to compare, it's very easy : PONG512 is also available on the MSXdev' website.
